I, Too, Sign America

I, too, am America.
Langston Hughes

I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.
They send me to eat in the kitchen
When company comes,
But I laugh,
And eat well,
And grow strong.

Tomorrow,
I'll be at the table
When company comes.
Nobody'll dare
Say to me,
"Eat in the kitchen,"
Then.

Besides,
They'll see how beautiful I am
And be ashamed--

I, too, am America.

This amazing poem really incorporates what this blog will be about. A seat at the table because I belong there and you belong there. Because we are beautiful and we are America. The color of our skin or language we speak should not matter as much as the beauty we bring to everyday America. The disabilities that touch everyone of us in one way or another are not the determining factor in our success or failure, they are a bi product of our struggle. They ground us in reality! Let us talk of the common man, the forgotten woman, the innocent child and let us talk of our turn at the table.
